My Practice

I have been practicing as an acupuncturist and herbalist since 2004, and in Eugene since 2005. I am licensed as an Acupuncturist in the State of Oregon; hold a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology) from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine; and am a member of the Oregon Acupuncture Association.

My areas of special interest include musculoskeletal disorders, women's and children's health, spiritual emergence issues, and general internal medicine. My martial arts and qigong training directly informs my practice of acupuncture and Chinese massage, and has given me a deeper understanding of the physical and energetic bodies. In order to provide a powerful and flexible approach to Chinese herbal medicine, I stock a bulk herb pharmacy with over 220 herbs. I use these herbs to formulate individualized herbal remedies specific to your condition and constitution.

Additionally, I study and teach Hunyuan Taijiquan (Tai Chi) and Qigong, practice Buddhist and Taoist meditation, and have a deep interest in the mystery at the source of the world's religious traditions. In order to be of the greatest service to others, I strive to penetrate the perennial wisdom of the ancient healers and sages and bring their teachings and practices to life. To this end I practice classical methods of promoting health, healing, and inner peace, as handed down to me by my teachers.

My Background

I was born and raised here in Eugene, Oregon, and graduated from South Eugene High School in 1994. I earned a B.A. in Multicultural Psychological Counseling from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington in 1999, and subsequently worked with children and families in the fields of mental health and special education.

My diverse interests led me to embark upon a course of study that would bridge the gap between body and mind, practice and philosophy. To that end I took up the study of Classical Chinese Medicine in 2001, with the encouragement and support of my wife, Hiromi.

I graduated from the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine's 3000-hour acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine Master's degree program in 2004. After graduating, I practiced as a licensed Acupuncturist in Seattle, Washington for one year. During that time, my first child—a son—Daishin, was born. Shortly thereafter, Hiromi and I decided to move to my hometown of Eugene to be nearer my parents, our child's only grandparents in the U.S. In 2006, our second child —a daughter—Mina, was born here in Eugene. Our family is flourishing with the support of my parents and this wonderful community.
